The Chinese government plans to create blockchain technology which is transparent, safe and free from speculation. Local regulators are now surprised by the actions of an anonymous person, which claims to hack and steal the data of one billion people measuring 23 terabytes. The man sold it on the dark web for 10 BTC, or about US $ 203,562.
The ChinaDan account has been successful in reaching data from Shanghai National Police (SHGA). The hacker received a significant amount of data including name, residence, national identity number, contact information and criminal history.
“The database contains information on China’s one billion national population and several billion case records, including names, addresses, places of birth, national ID numbers, mobile phone numbers and all details of crimes or cases.” - ChinaDan released the information in the hacker forum Breach Forum
The account also included a sample of 750 000 records to increase its reliability. According to Chindan, a private cloud service provided by Alibaba's cloud, which is a part of the Chinese police network, was used to extract data.
Binance CEO, Changpeng Jhao (CZ) created an alert about this data theft. On July 4, in a Twitter thread, CZ announced that their safety intelligence team discovered sales on the dark web.

China is currently running to investigate the incident. This incident suggests that Beijing is facing many challenges, as the country is tightening its policy of sensitive online material. Under Chinese law, distribution of personal information is punishable by imprisonment.
